Library STEAM Cart Initiated by Mary Soule
Benefiting Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd
Funding is provided for a cart designed for various materials for makerspace activities. The cart’s mobility allows it to be shared throughout the school.
Little Bird’s Flock Initiated by Jeanne Stinson
Benefiting 1st and 2nd
This project would connect first and second grade writers in the four multi-age classrooms with published young adult authors from The Telling Room through a one hour visit to each classroom and a set of 12 copies of the book Little Bird’s Flock for the multi-age classrooms to share.
Maine Marimba Ensemble at Coffin School Initiated by Danielle Murphy
Benefiting Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd
Brings the Maine Marimba Ensemble to Coffin School for a day. The Ensemble will work with smaller groups of 1st and 2nd graders to introduce them to the sounds of the marimba, help them create music of a different culture, show them some mechanics of marimba building, and allow them to discover the link between marimba and Zimbabwe.
Mindfulness in the Classroom Initiated by Keira Ithomitis

Provides teacher with resources to foster mindfulness throughout Coffin School. Each classroom will be provided with Yoga cards, reading material and CDs.

Adapted Books for the Library Initiated by Jessica Pelletier

This grant provides funds to purchase and adapt books for the HBS library. The adapted books are changed to make them more accessible to people with disabilities.
Wabanaki Studies Collection Initiated by Heather Martin

This project provides a resource collection on Wabanaki history, language and culture, including books, artifacts, manipulatives and teaching resources. In addition to physical materials, this grant will cover costs to bring a presenter to the school through library coordinated programming.
Junior High School
Sprouting Wings Initiated by Peg Acheson

Provides training to teachers to utilize and supervise the Junior High School ropes course.
BJHS Audio Recording Studio Initiated by Felicity Beede
Benefiting 8th
Provides funding for equipment and training to turn an unused office into a podcast recording studio.
Hands and Minds on Forces and Motion Initiated by Tabitha Dionne
Benefiting 7th
This project provides Hall’s Cars, tabletop pulleys, and weights to allow students to investigate relationships between force, mass and motion, and to build on these experiences to use the equipment to design and run their own experiments about motion.
Math Around Town Initiated by Carly Cavallari
Benefiting 8th
Provides materials to establish quarterly scenarios for students with learning disabilities to develop “life skills” utilizing math. The classroom will be turned into a bank, grocery / department store, restaurant and a movie theater.
Meeting Student Needs through Flexible Seating Initiated by Cris Lavigne

Provides alternative seating and fidget options to middle students to help decrease distraction in the classroom, and work to increase productivity, participation, and success.
Mental Health Resource Books Initiated by Sarah Bingham

This project places mental health resource books in the library and health classrooms in the Junior High.
Navigating the World with Geocaching Initiated by Andrew Kosak
Benefiting 6th
Provides handheld GPs devices that will be used to navigate the town of Brunswick. Navigating town allows students to discover first hand the geography of the area and provides the basis for research of local history.
Toolkit for Students with Special Needs Initiated by Kari McCarthy
Benefiting 6th, 7th and 8th
Provides adaptive artmaking toolkit to the art department containing tools specifically designed for artists with special needs.
Wabanaki Cultural Day Initiated by Carla Shaw
Benefiting 7th
As part of the 7th grade Wabanaki Cultural day, this grant provides workshop supplies and artisans and experts. These supplies and experts will encourage learning about Wabanaki Culture through workshops, including building wigwams, making baskets, building canoes and model canoes, making dolls, writing and producing a film about Wabanaki nations.
High School
BHS Marine Aquarium/Touch Tank Initiated by Andrew McCullough and Susan Perkins

This project will establish a marine aquarium and phytoplankton culture in the High School science department and create a curriculum that will forge older to younger peer teaching opportunities between BHS, BJHS, HBS, and the new Kate Furbish school
Generation Text Initiated by Samantha Francis-Taylor and Amy Russell

This project builds on a lecture series devoted to bringing prominent writers of all different genres—novelists, lyricists, journalists, bloggers – to the High School to inspire a new generation of writers.

The REAL Awareness Project will offer a comprehensive approach to learning mindfulness, promoting awareness, and practicing strategies for integrating body and mind experiences, for students, thus equipping them with valuable, life long tools for self regulation.

Students, extend their learning through hands-on projects, build their own knowledge and skills, work in small teams, and ultimately contribute to the school or community by applying their skills through a service learning orientation in an improved makerspace.

This project aims to move students toward becoming engaged readers through environments conducive to diverse learning styles and self regulation by reducing extraneous distractions and by increasing access to appropriate and interesting books.
